Whirlpool Oven Ignitors
Whirlpool offers 12 gas ranges and nine gas cooktops, as well as electric models of built-in ovens, microwaves,
convection ovens, ranges, cooktops, hoods and vents. Its electric ignitor feature automatically lights the
cooktop burners when control knobs are turned to "HI" and, should the flame go out, will automatically
reignite. The burners can still be lit in the case of a power failure by holding a lit match near a burner and
turning the knob to the HI position.
Corporate History
Whirlpool began operating as the Upton Machine Co. in 1911, producing wringer-washers. It adopted the Whirlpool
name in 1950 and began marketing its first top-load automatic washing machine under that brand name. In 2006,
Whirlpool purchased Maytag--owner of such popular brands as KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Hoover and
Inglis--making the parent company the largest appliance manufacturer in the world.
Tips For Troubleshooting Oven Ignitors
Should your Whirlpool range or cooktop experience continuous sparking of the ignitor, check to see whether there's
a cross draft drawing the flame away from the ignitor. It is normal for the ignitor to continuously spark when a
cross draft is present. Other things to check include whether the power supply cord is properly
grounded/polarized and that the burner cap and head are positioned properly.
Warranty
Whirlpool offers a one-year warranty from the date of purchase, which includes replacement parts and repair labor
costs to correct defects in materials or workmanship. A limited warranty for the second through fifth years
states that Whirlpool will pay for replacement parts for any gas burner to correct defects in materials or
workmanship but not for labor. In both instances, the repairs must be carried out by a Whirlpool-designated
service company.
Customer Experiences
Whirlpool's online Owner Center provides product support, including sections with FAQs, manuals and literature,
