Gibson Oven Ignitors

The Gibson brand manufactured a standard line of gas and electric ranges, but according to a Frigidaire representative, the Gibson-branded ovens are no longer being manufactured. Examples of gas stove models are CGC3M6WX/A or CG4S9WSX/A.

Gibson's History

Founded by Joshua Hall in Belding, Michigan, in 1877, Gibson began as Belding-Hall Co., making ice boxes. When Belding-Hall was purchased by competing ice-box maker Frank Gibson in the early 1900s, it became the largest ice-box manufacturer in the industry. Gibson began making electric refrigerators in 1932 and claims several refrigeration innovations. Hupp Corp. would acquire Gibson in 1956 before merging with White Consolidated Industries in 1967, a company that would be acquired by Electrolux in 1986. The company is now part of Electrolux's Frigidaire unit.

Troubleshooting Gibson Oven Ignitors

Gibson ovens and ranges take the same parts as those of its Frigidaire parent. According to Frigidaire, replacement parts can be acquired through Frigidaire-authorized parts distributors, which can be located locally on the company's website. Most Frigidaire ovens--both gas and electric--take a flat style gas oven igniter that's 3.72 inches long and has an amperage range between 3.2 and 3.6 amps. However, some Gibson ovens take different igniters, measuring 5.53 or 7.53 inches. As for the repair process itself, customers will need to remove the oven drawer for access. A pair of screws and wire nuts will need to be removed to take out the old ignitor. Simply reverse the steps upon installing the new part. Job should be completed in between 15 and 30 minutes.

Warranty Information

Gibson ovens and ranges come with a standard one-year parts and labor warranty. The company also offers extended service agreements of either one, two or three years, the latter two options offering deferred payment options. Extended service contracts--which may be enacted anytime during the first six months after purchasing the product--cover all parts and labor.
