Frigidaire Oven Ignitors

Longtime appliance giant Frigidaire --now part of Electrolux Corp.--offers a wide array of cooking products. Ranges are available in freestanding electric or gas models between 30 and 40 inches; slide-in electric, gas or dual-fuel models, or drop-in electric ranges. Gas cooktops are available in sealed or open burner designs, as well as electric smoothtop or coiled designs; and built-in ovens are available in single gas or electric or double electric models.

Frigidaire's History

Formed in Ft.Wayne, Indiana, as Guardian Frigerator Co. in 1916, the company developed the first self-contained refrigerator, and two years later General Motors co-founder William C. Durant invested in the company leading to its adoption of the name Frigidaire in 1919. The name became synonymous with refrigeration products as the company grew under the General Motors umbrella from 1919 until 1980. It would later be acquired by White Consolidated Industries--which also owned the Westinghouse appliance line--before being sold again to Electrolux, where it has remained since 1986.

Troubleshooting Frigidaire Oven Ignitors

According to Frigidaire, replacement parts can be acquired through Frigidaire-authorized parts distributors, which can be located on the company's website. Frigidaire ovens--both gas and electric--take a flat-style gas oven igniter that's 3.72 inches long and has an amperage range between 3.2 and 3.6. As for the repair process itself, the oven drawer first needs to be removed for access. A pair of screws and wire nuts also need to be removed to take out the old igniter. Simply reverse the steps upon installing the new part. Job should be completed between 15 and 30 minutes.

Warranty Information

Frigidaire ovens and ranges come with a standard one-year parts and labor warranty. The company also offers extended service agreements of either one, two or three years, the latter two options offering deferred payment options. Extended service contracts--which may be enacted anytime during the first six months after purchasing the product--cover all parts and labor.
