Weber BBQ Grill Igniters
Weber sells five different lines of gas grills as well as a selection of charcoal grills with gas ignition systems. They include single burner, two burner, three burner, and even four and
six burner models of various sizes. Some Weber gas grills include separate rotisserie burners or smoker burners. Many of the larger grills include separate igniters for each burner.
Weber's History
George Stephen invented the kettle grill in 1951. It immediately became a popular product, enabling Stephen to buy full control of Weber Brother Metal Works in 1958 and immediately cease production of
everything but grills. They sold 15,000 grills in 1959 and sales increased at a rapid pace thereafter. By the late 1970s, more than half a million Weber grills were sold each year.
Weber branched out into gas grills powered by propane in 1985, focusing on higher end grills that sold for $360 or more at a time when competitors were focused on the under $200 market. By 1998,
Weber introduced the Summit grill selling for $3,000, cementing its place at the high end of the gas grill market.
Special Features of Weber Grill Ignitors
Many Weber gas grills use the Crossover® ignition system. This system ignites the left burner of a double burner system with a spark from the igniter electrode generated by a battery.
The right burner is then ignited from the left burner.
Some larger gas grills use the Snap-Jet™ ignition system which individually ignites each burner on the grill for greater control.
Safety Issues with Weber Grill Ignitors
All burner controls should be turned off before lighting a Weber grill ignitor and the grill lid should be open. In addition, if the ignitor fails to light on the first try, wait
at least five minutes before trying again. Failure to do so could result in a fire or explosion causing damage or injury.
Customer Experiences
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) of Chicago has received six complaints about Weber in the past three years across all of its product lines. All six complaints were either resolved or
closed because the BBB considered offers Weber made to customers good faith attempts at resolution even though those customers were still unhappy. Weber is not rated by the Better Business
Bureau but it has a satisfactory record according to the consumer organization.
Weber's Warranty
Warranties on Weber Grills vary by part and grill model. The grill ignitor is under warranty for two years on most gas grills.
