ProTech Furnace Ignitors

ProTech is the aftermarket parts brand created by HVAC company Rheem Manufacturing Co. when it regenerated its aftermarket product segment in 2001. The parts are sold through Rheem's ProStock wholesale stores with the mission, Rheem says, of providing industry contractors and professionals across all brands with a network of reliable and convenient one-stop parts and supply destinations. The ProStock stores and the ProTech brand are both managed by the Replacement Parts Group of Rheem's Air Conditioning unit.

ProTech Ignitors

The most popular ignitor from ProTech for Rheem- and Ruud-branded furnaces is a Hot Surface Ignitor Kit Model 62-22868-93 with a ceramic base, which comes with a "C" terminal connector branded with Norton Model 201N and 4 1/2-inch wire leads. This ignitor fits the majority of Rheem, Ruud and WeatherKing furnaces. Among other ignitors are a Direct Spark Ignitor with 40-inch wires, measured from the back of the ignitor flange to the terminal itself. The ignitor then extends 2 inches from the flange. The part number is 62-24141-04 and is used in several models, including RGFD, RGRB, RGRK, RGRL, 90RS, 90RT, 90TS, RGRA and RGTA.

History Of ProTech

The ProTech brand name was introduced in April 2001, when Rheem Manufacturing Co. revamped its aftermarket parts segment, developing a new wholesale store--known as ProStock--that would feature parts branded at ProTech. The ProTech line replaced Rheem's former Universal Parts line, which was regarded as too generic, and in so doing ditched the old black-and white color scheme for a new 12-color-coded organization. The new structure stressed possessing the right inventory, effectively merchandising the products and aiding contractors in making their selections through itemization such as red for gas and oil heating, light blue for thermostats and alarms, and purple for refrigerant piping. An amalgamation of Professional and Technical, ProTech branded parts are compatible with all Rheem equipment, as well as those from Rheem's Ruud and WeatherKing divisions.

ProTech Warranty Information

All Rheem/Ruud units have a base five-year warranty. Should an igniter fail during that period, a replacement is provided that's covered for the balance of the warranty. If the unit is no longer covered by warranty, the replacement ignitor is covered for one year from date of installation.
