Goodman Janitrol Furnace Ignitors
Goodman Janitrol furnace ignitors are one of the many products made by Goodman Manufacturing Co. One of the
world's largest independent manufacturers of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment, Goodman is
number two in HVAC market share. It makes
a range of products, from small room air conditioners to central air and heating systems, which are sold under many
names including Goodman, Janitrol, Caloric, GMC and Modern Maid. In its corporate statements, Goodman claims that four
principles guide its product development: high quality and exceptional reliability, easy installation, industry leading
warranties, and affordable prices. Forbes has listed Goodman as one of the top 100 privately held companies in
the United States.
History Of Goodman Manufacturing
Former air conditioning contractor, Harold V. Goodman launched his manufacturing company in 1975 after more than
20 years in the heating and cooling industry. The company was a successful flexible air duct and plastic blade
register manufacturer until 1982, when Goodman purchased the Janitrol company and entered the market as a
manufacturer of central air conditioners and heat pumps. In 1990, Goodman started giving five-year warranties on
its parts, which lead an industry trend toward longer warranties. Today, 10-year warranties are standard in the
industry--and Goodman is a $1.9 billion company.
Ignitor Product Lines
The standard Goodman Janitrol ignitor used on nearly all of its furnaces is a silicon nitride system, which the
company claims is "seven times stronger than silicon carbide systems" and the most durable in the industry.
Called a mini-ignitor, conversion kits are available for Goodman furnaces that are equipped with older carbide
ignitors.
