Heil Furnace Ignitors

Heil is a brand of International Comfort Products, which is a division of United Technologies Corporation's Carrier Corp. unit. The company makes and distributes a full line of residential furnaces, heat pumps--including split and dual-fuel units--and packaged air conditioners, heat pumps and gas/electric units, and also offers commercial units with as much as 20 tons worth of cooling capacity. Heil's products are sold, installed and serviced by independent heating and air conditioning contractors who get the systems and parts from a Heil distributor. Products are made in facilities throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Heil's Ignitors

Heil's entire gas furnace line is constructed using silicon nitride ignitors. The company describes these ignitors as "robust," saying they last longer than alternate constructions because the design can withstand high-line voltage and don't require voltage regulators. Heil says the design was torture-tested with the equivalent of 30 years of strenuous, high-heat conditions without failure. Note that if you're seeking an ignitor online, search not only under Heil but under International Comfort Products as well, as the same parts fit a variety of ICP-branded products.

Company History

Heil has been a brand of Nashville, Tennessee-based International Comfort Products Corp. for more than 50 years. In 1999, Carrier -- a unit of the $55 billion conglomerate United Technologies Corp -- acquired ICP in a deal valued at roughly $720 million in cash and debt.

Heil's Warranty

Heil offers a number of warranty options for its furnace lines. The company's No Hassle Replacement limited warranty provides a new replacement unit should a major component fail during the No Hassle period, which is one, five, seven or 10 years, depending on the product tier, offering added protection on top of the standard product warranties. Heil says that any replacement ignitor will be covered for the remainder of the warranty on the original part. Hence, if you have a seven-year warranty on your furnace and the ignitor blows after three years, the replacement ignitor will be covered for four years from the date of installation.
