Amana Furnace Ignitors
Amana is well-known for gas furnaces in the HVAC industry, mainly due to the company's proprietary heat exchanger
and ignitor technology (MillionAir heat exchangers and SureStart™ ignitors, respectively).
Product Lines
Amana claims 3 benefits of its SureStart furnace ignition system:
- the SureStart is a silicon-nitride hot surface ignitor. Silicon-nitride ignitors are more durable than silicon carbide
igniters;
- the company has written (and patented) software that controls how much heat the ignitor provides at ignition. The company
claims that this extends the ignitor's life;
- the ignition system responds effectively to changes in line voltage;
Amana's History
Amana was formed in 1934 by George Foerstner, who founded Amana Refrigerator Inc. in Amana, Iowa. The company
began in response to a challenge from an Iowa City businessman to design and build a reliable beverage cooler.
Amana went on to produce a walk-in beverage cooler (cold storage locker) for use
in grocery stores and restaurants. After WWII, the company branched out from refrigeration to manufacture a line
of heating and cooling products. Today, the Amana brand is under license to the Goodman Manufacturing Co.
Warranty
The SureStart ignition system in a new Amana furnace is covered by a 5-year limited warranty, which covers the
cost of the replacement part.
